Pencils
We will be using pencils for sketching out our letters before we go over them with a pen or marker. We prefer Castle Art Watercolor Pencil Set because they have a wide range of colors to choose from, but regular pencils will work just fine. We like using the Ohuhu Alcohol Markers because they have a variety of colors and the tips are perfect for creating thick and thin lines. Any type of paper will work for this tutorial, but we suggest using thicker paper such as cardstock or watercolor paper if you plan on adding watercolors to your letters. Thinner paper may buckle or warp when wet media is applied. We like to use Strathmore, 400 Series Sketch Pad, 9″x12″ for our bubble lettering projects. It has a smooth surface which is great for pen and marker use, but it also holds up well to watercolors.
Eraser
Having an eraser on hand will come in handy for fixing any mistakes or for lightening pencil lines before going over them with a pen or marker. If you have a kneaded eraser, even better! They can be easily molded into different shapes for precision erasing.
